National Eye Health Week is 21st-26th September. Follow these top ten tips to keep your eyes healthy!

#1 BE EYE AWARE:Call your local opticians if you notice a change in your vision or have any concerns about your eye health. Make sure you attend for regular eye examinations and contact lens check-ups

#2 EAT RIGHT FOR GOOD SIGHT: A balanced diet rich in leafy green vegetables, fruit, omega-3 and wholegrains can help keep your eyes healthy

#3 WATCH YOUR WEIGHT: Maintaining a healthy weight can help keep your eyes and vision healthy. A BMI of 35+ can significantly increase your risk of sight loss

#4 STAY ACTIVE: Being physically active could help reduce your risk of vision impairment. Brisk walks, swimming & cycling are all great ways to stay fit & healthy

#5 QUIT SMOKING: Smokers are up to four times more likely to lose their sight than non-smokers. Smoking can also cause eye irritation and impair colour vision

#6 SLIP ON YOUR SUNNIES: Exposure to UV light increases your risk of developing sight-threatening conditions such as cataracts and macular degeneration

#7 GO OUT & PLAY: Spending two hours or more a day outdoors could help prevent your child becoming short-sighted

#8 WEAR SAFETY GLASSES: Every year in the UK 30,000 people suffer a DIY-related injury. Always wear good quality safety glasses when doing jobs around the house and garden

#9 MAKEOVER YOUR MAKE-UP BAG: Keep make-up brushes clean and follow the Period After Opening guidance on cosmetic products to prevent eye irritation and infection

#10 BE SCREEN SMART: Follow the 20-20-20 rule to prevent your eyes feeling tired and irritated when using your computer, device or mobile phone. Look up from your screen every 20 minutes and focus on something 20 feet away for 20 seconds
