Donner Present Sports Vision to Effingham & Leatherhead RFC
Local Optometrist and trained Sports Vision Consultant David Donner of Donner Optometrists treated Effingham and Leatherhead RFC to the first of his local Sports Vision seminars last Tuesday at King George V recreation ground in Effingham.
With many top clubs like Manchester United and Chelsea, regularly utilising sports vision coaches, Effingham & Leatherhead RFC snapped up the opportunity to get David, a qualified Sports Vision practitioner, to advise their coaches ahead of the forthcoming season. He advised techniques that they can implement into their training to assist in the development of their squads.
David said, “I am keen on eye care and sport so the field of Sports Vision is really interesting to me as it combines my 2 passions.” He added, “In 2003, England used renowned Sports Vision expert Sherylle Calder to help in their training and preparation leading up to their victory over Australia in the rugby World Cup. Four years later, South Africa used Sherylle skills and were successful in winning, so she can now claim to be the only person in rugby to retain the World Cup.”
Over 30 coaches from the mini, junior and senior age groups turned up to the presentation and were treated to an insight into the fascinating world of Sports Vision and how certain techniques, that can be implemented now, will benefit all players in their future development.
Club Chairman Nigel Maycock said, “It was a real insight into how the brain, eyes and ears work when playing any sport and how by developing drills to incorporate the techniques highlighted; we can and will expand the skills necessary to allow players of any standard to develop into really good players.”
David now plans to run similar presentations through as many of the local sports clubs as possible within his catchment area of his two practices in Bookham & Leatherhead.
