Optical bodies issue guidance on Swine Flu
A joint statement has been issued by the optical bodies detailing infection control guidance on swine flu.
The statement given by the Association of British Dispensing Opticians (ABDO) College of Optometrists, Association of Optometrists and Federation of Ophthalmic and Dispensing Opticians directs practitioners to guidance on the College and ABDO’s websites.
The bodies recommend practitioners apply common sense and good practice as well as being scrupulous about hygiene in line with the College and ABDO guidelines.
Practices are also advised to take reasonable steps to prevent cross-infection by hand washing, ensuring coughs and sneezes are into tissues which are then disposed of and offering tissues to patients who are sneezing.
Any staff members who have recently been to Mexico and who begin to experience flu-like symptoms within seven days of return are recommended to urgently contact NHS Direct on 0845 4647 or visit a GP.
